Medical Gas Manifolds
A manifold turns a group of cylinders into a continuous supply source for a medical gas pipeline. Its operating principle is two banks — duty and reserve — with changeover ensuring gas never stops while cylinders are exchanged.

Operating principle
The manifold is split into two cylinder banks. The first bank feeds the pipeline; when its pressure falls to a set point, supply transfers automatically to the second bank and a signal calls for the depleted bank to be changed. An intermittent manual task thus becomes a continuous supply.

- Two cylinder headers with gas-specific connections.
- High-pressure flexible tails between cylinder and header.
- Non-return valves preventing back-feed between cylinders.
- Pressure regulators reducing cylinder pressure to line pressure.

- Secure cylinder restraint preventing toppling.
- A clear handling route allowing safe cylinder movement in and out.
- Separation of different gases with clear identification of each bank.
- No flammable materials or oils inside the room.
Operation and maintenance
Sound operation depends on watching pressure indication rather than waiting for the alarm to change cylinders. Periodic maintenance covers flexible tails, non-return valves and regulators, verification that automatic changeover functions correctly, and testing of the alarm signal at the panel.

Oils and greases are prohibited on any part in contact with oxygen, cylinder valves are opened slowly to avoid sudden pressure and temperature rise, and adaptors or connections not dedicated to the same gas must never be used.
